Pakistan Contacts India To Appoint Kulbhushan’s Legal Representative

Pakistan has recontacted Indian government over matter of appointing legal representative for spy and agent of intelligence agency RAW Kulbhushan Jadhav.

This was confirmed by Foreign Office spokesperson Aisha Farooqui on Thursday. During the new briefing, Aisha Farooqui said that the move came under the light of Islamabad High Court (IHC) directives. “We are waiting for the response of Indian authorities on this matter,” she added.

Earlier, IHC had directed the government to recontact India for appointment of legal representative for Kulbhushan Jadhav. IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah asked the attorney general to brief the court about history of the case.

“We want to make Indian government and Kulbhushan part of the case over which, the federation assured to again approach the neighboring country through foreign office for hiring of lawyer for the spy,” the chief justice maintained.

Earlier, the IHC has decided to form a larger bench over the Kulbhushan Jadhav issue. Abid Manto, Hamid Khan and Makhdoom Ali have been appointed as court assistants.

In the verdict, the court ruled that the government had paved the way for court review through the ordinance.

Hearing the application of the Law secretary on Monday, IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Mian Gull Hassan Aurangzeb directed the government to once again offer India and Kulbhushan Jadhav to appoint a counsel.

They remarked that the court will ensure the fair trial of the Kulbhushan Jadhav case. The court also ordered the government to contact the Indian government to give the consular access to Kulbhushan Jadhav for the third time.
