The National Assembly was informed today that illegal SIMs are being blocked, in view of the security situation in the country.
Parliamentary Secretary for Cabinet Secretariat Raja Javed Ikhlas told the House, during Question Hour that the process of biometric verification of SIMs is in full swing across the country. He said that new SIMs will not be issued, without submission of Computerized National Identity Cards and biometric verification.
The Parliamentary Secretary said that the government will ensure 3G and 4G services in all parts of the country. The cell phone operators are upgrading their infrastructure and the spectrum services will be available to the people in the next few months. He said the government auctioned the 3G and 4G services in the most transparent manner and earned record 120 billion rupees.
About the blockage of YouTube, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House that a mechanism is being evolved to prevent the people in the country, to visit sites having blasphemous material. He said YouTube was blocked on the directions of the Supreme Court. The government cannot take any decision on its own about this site without the decision of the apex court.
Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House that 11 aircraft will be inducted in Pakistan International Airlines, on wet and dry leases. He pointed out that most of the PIA aircraft have lived their age and induction of new aircraft will help reduce its expenditures on fuel and repair. He said the present government had also given a package of 16 billion rupees to the national flag carrier to steer it out of crisis. Shaikh Aftab said the government has not taken any decision about downsizing in the PIA as it does not want to lay off any person.
Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting Mohsin Shahnawaz Ranjha told the House that government advertisements are given to the private television channels keeping in view their viewership and rating. He said, the cultural and archaeological sites have been devolved to the provinces under the 18th amendment and responsibility now lies with them to work for their protection and preservation.
To a question, Parliamentary Secretary for Cabinet Secretariat Raja Javed Ikhlas told the House that 180 million rupees have been released for the security of educational institutions in the Islamabad Capital Territory. He said that CCTV cameras have been installed in the schools to monitor the security situation. He said that a campaign to enroll out of school children is continuing in the capital and so far 15860 out of school children have been admitted in the schools.
