Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are negotiating an agreement for the exchange of preachers and clerics, reported dawn. “We are working on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) under which Saudi ulema would visit Pakistan and our ulema could travel to the kingdom for religious purposes,” Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf told Dawn after inaugurating a seminar on inter-faith harmony. According to an official of the International Islamic University, the Saudi authorities are also planning to set up a Pakistan-Saudi friendship centre at the institution. The centre will focus on religious education. This is infact a destructive idea as Pakistani society is facing a high degree of extremsim and radicalization. This idea would further radicalize Pakistan society. In Saudi Arabia, people are still publicly stoned to death for committing religious offences such as blasphemy, adultery, and “sorcery. The arrival of Saudi preachers would unleash a high degree of radicalization in society and Pakistan that is already on the brink of destruction would further decent into religious extremism that might not be controllable and it would become another Afghanistan. Furthermore With arrival of Saudi Preachers, The trouble of already besieged Shiite community would multiply as it would further deepen the seed of hatred between Salfists and Shiite community. It is not time to exchange preachers with each other rather to promote interfaith harmony among different sects.
