Peace and Culture Organisation (PCO) Chairperson Mushaal Hussein Mullick welcomed remarks by the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Commissioner Michelle Bachelet who said she would further expose the fascist face of the Narendra Modi-led government before the world.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, she said that it is a welcoming sign that the human rights organisations are openly talking about rising barbarism that has been unleashed by Indian forces in the Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK).

However, Mushaal, who is the wife of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman Yasin Malik, demanded of the world community and the UN bodies to take practical steps against Indian government to put a stop to the continued state atrocities in the occupied valley.

Speaking at the 45th UNHRC committee session in Geneva, the high commissioner said, “It has been more than a year since my last report […] In Indian-administered Kashmir, incidents of military and police violence against civilians continue, including the use of pellet guns, as well as incidents related to militancy. Major legal changes – including to the Constitution and domicile rules – are generating deep anxiety, but the space for political debate and public participation continues to be severely restricted, particularly since new media rules have prohibited vaguely defined ‘anti-national’ reporting.”

Mushaal said that Indian occupation forces turned the “heaven-like” valley into a simmering volcano due to the unprecedented surge of state barbarism and brutalities. She said that top Kashmir leadership, including her husband Yaseen, is under inhuman detention of the occupying powers as the valley has been turned into an open jail.

The chairperson lamented that fascist forces crossed all limits of viciousness and inhuman acts; however, unfortunately, the world community and human right organizations are merely issuing statements rather running organized campaigns to force the Indian government to give Kashmir the right to self-determination.

She said that time ripe the world powers should exert pressure on the Indian government to ensure resolution of the decades-old Kashmir dispute as per the US resolutions and aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
