India on Tuesday walked out of a virtual meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) after member states overruled New Delhi’s objection on the projection of Pakistan’s new map at the meeting.

Meanwhile celebrated its diplomatic victory , the overruling of Indian objection by Russia to displaying of its new political map at an online meeting of national security advisers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

Pakistan had on Aug 4 — a day before the first anniversary of annexation of occupied Kashmir by India — unveiled the new political map underlining the disputed status of the Kashmir region. The row over the display of the new map at the NSAs meeting started a few days back during a test call for the conference, where India noticed it in the background.

Recent tensions between the South Asian neighbors mounted following New Delhi’s unilateral decision to revoke decades-long special status of the Muslim-majority disputed valley. On Aug. 5, 2019, the Indian government revoked Article 370 and other related provisions from its constitution, stripping the state of its autonomy and splitting it into two federally-administered territories.

The rejection of Indian claim by the Russia shows that world has diplomatically accepted Pakistan’s claim according to the UN’s resolution. Pakistan’s deliberate move has once again brought Indian occupied Kashmir into lime light, though the decision to change the map was highly criticized by the Pakistanis when it was announced, yet the time has proved the significance of this move.

There is no second opinion that World has never taken Kashmir as a serious issue though it is a flashpoint between two nuclear rivals and after India’s decision to illegally annex Jammu and Kashmir, the world’s silence is condemnable. Pakistan fears that with the passage of the time this issue would go in the back burner and the least important issue for the world would finally diminish from the world power’s agenda.

Thus the political map by the Pakistan would continue to haunt India on international forums and it would also help Pakistan to highlight this issue easily. India’s reaction on the political map shows that this factious map has very significance. This map would definitely lead to row between India and Pakistan each time it is displayed by the Pakistan in the world forums keeping Kashmir issue alive.
