Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) which filed resolutions in the National Assembly to de-seat Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers have shared their wish-lists with the government as it held separate meetings with them.The MQM and JUI-F had moved resolutions in the National Assembly to de-seat the PTI lawmakers, arguing that they had lost legitimacy to sit in the house due to their long absence.The demand for unseating the PTI came from JUI-F and MQM which have a history of bitter rivalry with the PTI. A few members of the PML-N also joined them out of a sheer desire to give Imran Khan a black eye. None of the mainstream parties favours pushing the PTI to the wall and leaving no option to it other than resorting to extra-constitutional forms of confrontation. The major parties are however keen to ensure that the PTI acts responsibly. Nawaz Sharif and other parliamentary leaders have tried to dissuade JUI-F and MQM from pressing their resolution in the National Assembly. It is being hoped that the matter would be resolved satisfactorily within this week. The PML-N leadership is hopeful that they will convince both parties not to press the de-seating resolutions in parliament. On the other hand, the PTI wants an early decision on the issue. PTI chairman Imran Khan has said that they will re-contest elections if de-seated. While signing an agreement regarding the result of the Judicial Commission’s report, both parties never thought about the present scenario that could take the shape of a political crisis. Amidst all this controversy, no one is caring about the national interest. Rather, political parties are more concerned about their own preferences. Our politicians need to understand this simple logic that our country is not in a position to afford such controversies any further. Already, the silliness of the PTI has wasted everyone’s time. During the 126-day sit-in, the PTI has made most of the political parties their rivals by hurling accusations against their heads. Imran has not changed his attitude and still utters impulsive statements again and again. His new demand about a probe into the involvement of the army generals in organising the PTI’s sit-in lacks wisdom. He has urged the PML-N to try General Pasha if it is proved that he had supported the PTI during its protest movement. It’s time for the PTI to do away with its stubborn policies. How can the PML-N take action against General Pasha, when it has so far failed to prosecute President Musharraf? The PTI need not provoke any other political party any more. It needs to show some maturity and avoid further follies. So far, the PPP and PML-N are acting sensibly. They do not want the system to collapse and other political forces should support them in this just cause. Our politicians should bury the past and divert all their energies to the real issues that are troubling the masses.
