NCOC special session to be held today to review opening of Education Sector

Shafaqna Pakistan: The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) Monday informed that a special meeting to review opening of educational institutions will be held on Tuesday.

In a tweet, it said the meeting would also review the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of Ramzan in the light of the suggestions of religious scholars.

The session would be chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar and to be participated by Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood and Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Pir Noor ul Haq Qadri.

It also tweeted that the region was continuing to be under the grip of deadly COVID wave.

The forum urged the masses to strictly follow safety protocols amid rising disease spread.

“Please adhere to SOPs and ensure strict compliance of instructions being issued. Stay Safe!,” the forum added.

On March 24, Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mehmood had announced to keep all educational institutions in nine districts of Punjab closed till April 11 as third wave of coronavirus grips Pakistan especially Punjab.

Talking to media persons after a meeting of NCOC, he emphasized that that closure is for all form of educational institutions including universities as well as academies.

The announcement was for Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sargodha, and Sheikhupura.

Coronavirus cases

On Monday, Pakistan has reported 43 deaths in the last 24 hours by novel coronavirus as the number of positive cases has surged to 692,231. The nationwide tally of fatalities has jumped to 14,821.

According to the latest figures by the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) 4,323 persons tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 24 hours.

Punjab remains the worst-hit province in terms of deaths followed by Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Till now 6,587 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab 4,509 in Sindh, 2,457 in KP, 583 in Islamabad, 371 in Azad Kashmir, 211 in Balochistan, and 103 in GB.

Furthermore 266,618 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Sindh, 233,348 in Punjab, 92,423 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 61,552 in Islamabad, 19,785 in Balochistan, 13,446 in Azad Kashmir and 5,059 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Tests and Recoveries

Pakistan has so far conducted 10,446,697 coronavirus tests and 43,362 in the last 24 hours. 615,960 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 3,587 patients are in critical condition.
