Police foiled a major terror bid by seizing at least 80 kilograms explosive, huge cache of weapons and detonators and arrested as many as six suspected terrorists in Tarnol area. Tarnol Police Station personnel raided a house in the locality at around 8:00am on a tip-off from intelligence agencies.The security forces including Rangers and Elite Force personnel seized at least 80-kg explosives, chemicals, six detonators, a 1,700 meter long wire, thousands of bullets and huge cache of weapons.As many as six militants were apprehended from the place. They were shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation. The weapons include eight submachine guns (SMG), a triple two rifle, two M16s, a 7mm, three repeaters, at least 19 30-bore pistols, three 9mms, seven 12-bore rifles, five pump-action guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition. A stolen car and two motorcycles have also been recovered in the raid. Following the raid, a search operation was conducted in Tarnol in which at least 59 suspects were arrested. Since Safoora carnage, RAW’s involvement in terror acts made headlines in the national electronic and print media. After arrests of terrorists that planned attack on the bus, and earlier arrest of two MQM activists in Karachi, the government has gathered incontrovertible evidence that RAW was behind Safoora carnage. Six gunmen on motorbikes had attacked a bus and killed 45 members of Ismaili community at Safoora Goth in Karachi on May 13. A week before attack on bus, Corps Commanders during the conference had expressed serious concern over the involvement of Indian intelligence agency, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), for “whipping up terrorism” in Pakistan. This was the first time in recent years that military commanders publicly alleged the Indian hand behind unrest in the country. The statement came days after a senior police officer in Karachi had arrested two Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) workers for allegedly inciting violence at the behest of the RAW. But they deemed it appropriate only to issue a statement to that effect. In fact, Pakistan\’s foreign office, ministry of interior, and information department had in the past avoided naming Indian agencies even when they had incontrovertible evidence. It is heartening to know that the government would produce the evidence of India’s involvement in the UN in the forthcoming session of the United Nations, though belatedly. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had many a time expressed his wish to have cordial relations with India and to settle all the disputes with India including Kashmir through dialogue. Of course, pre-election Indo-Pak tension was stirred by BJP and other Hindu extremist organizations, and the campaign was led by Narendra Modi himself. Apart from traditional hatred against Pakistan, efforts are being made to sabotage the CPEC project, which is part of Beijing’s plan to expand its trade and extend its footprint across Central and South Asia, which will give China easier access to Middle Eastern oil via the deepwater port of Gwadar. Of course, Pakistan stands to gain from the massive Chinese investment, up-gradation of Gwadar Port, which would make Balochistan an economic hub and improve the lives of the Baloch.
