He also frankly admitted US failures in Iraq and Cuba besides acknowledging that use of military force was no solution to the problems. It is good that wisdom seems to have ultimately dawned on Washington, which has been pursuing unilateral policies of trampling sovereignty of other countries on flimsy excuses. But the question arises, would US admission of its failure undo the harm done to people of Iraq and Cuba, who suffered hugely due to invasion and unjustified sanctions for decades? Iraq has been bombed to the stone-age on the pretext of it possessing weapons of mass destruction, which are still to be found. Americans left Iraq in a condition that today there are apprehensions that the country might split into two or three entities. It is also to be pointed out that admission of Obama was not comprehensive as he did not mention Afghanistan where his country not only miserably failed but also inflicted unforgettable human and material losses to Afghan nation. The policy is still continuing and Afghanistan seems to be as away from a secure and peaceful future as it was before only because of the mindless pursuit of bloodletting by the United States. Not only Afghanistan, but the entire region stands destabilized due to American follies and headstrong attitude. American President also failed to declare in clear terms that his country would not pursue policies like pre-emptive strikes, regime change, and encirclement of countries and shun providing direct or indirect assistance to monsters like ISIS. We hope Obama would listen to what UN Secretary-General said in his speech to the inaugural session of the UN that we have money for wars but not for progress and welfare of the humanity.
