After weeks of speculation, Pakistan handed over on Friday dossiers containing evidence of Indian involvement in terrorism and fomenting instability in the country to UN chief Ban Ki-moon.“The dossiers include details of Indian interference and support for terrorism in Balochistan and Karachi as well as its security and intelligence agencies’ link with the TTP especially in FATA,” said a statement issued by the Foreign Office. Counselor Permanent Mission of Pakistan to the United Nations Bilal Ahmad confirmed the handing over of the dossiers while responding to a question regarding accusations leveled by India in reaction to Prime Minister’s Nawaz Sharif’s address to the UN General Assembly. In a stinging reply, Pakistan hit back at India by suggesting the entire world is united in unequivocally condemning terrorism, except India. India has also failed to bring to justice the perpetrators of terrorism against innocent civilians in the 2007 Samjhota Express bombings. The decision of the Indian government not to challenge the bail granted to Swami Aseemanand, the main accused in the case, raises serious doubts about India’s willingness to convict its nationals involved in terror incidents against the Muslims, the diplomat added. After PM Nawaz’s statement calling for demilitarizing Kashmir, Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj retorted at the General Assembly that “We don’t need four points, we need just one: Give up terrorism and let us sit down and talk.” As far as the Indian government goes, Pakistan is the primary sponsor of terrorism and they will stick by this claim no matter what those dossiers state. Even if the audio and video evidence present in these files prove beyond doubt that India is indeed sponsoring state terrorism in Pakistan, nothing will change. India has committed over 400 ceasefire violations within last nine months, and will continue to do so if it wants, regardless of international involvement.If Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, being a war criminal, can stand in front of the UNGA and glare at them for 44 seconds in absolute silence over “Iranian threats” to Israel, one can see how toothless the UN really is. The submission of physical proof was necessary to suggest to the international community that India was the first offender, but even then we are on a weaker footing. One can only hope that Pakistan will stick to its guns and root out terrorism internally once and for all. The words ‘terrorism’ and ‘Pakistan’ need to stop being synonymous in the international media.For now, India is at an international high, and Modi is a superstar. This will fade. And though a resolution on Kashmir may not come to pass, we do not have much to fear from India. We have been in survival mode since 1947, and we pose a bigger threat to India that it will openly admit. These are trying times, and Pakistan just has to power through. There is no conciliation forthcoming from the BJP government. The BJP might hopefully lose its power soon, and maybe we can start again with a more levelheaded government.
