ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Russia signed an inter-governmental agreement for construction of North-South gas pipeline here on Friday.
The agreement was signed by Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for construction a pipeline between Karachi and Lahore.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was also present on the occasion.
The project will be executed by a Russian company RT-Global Resources – a part of Russian State Corporation Rostec.
The 1,100 kilometer pipeline with a capacity of 12.4bcm per annum will connect liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals located in Karachi with those of Lahore.
Russia has assured Pakistan of all possible technical support and expertise, and completion of the project within the scheduled time. – Samaa/APP
