At the time when country is abuzz with the news of differences between father and son, especially after Bilawal Bhutto Zardari did not come to the death anniversaries of his grandfather Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and mother Benazir Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari’s statement that Bilawal still needs to grow has worsen the situation. Former president Asif Zardari says his son will be gradually eased into a political career. From a few reports of the news conference given by the ex-president it appears as if an acknowledgement has been made that the young scion, already the saviour to look forward to for his party, is not mature enough for the mantle of leadership. Bilawal was soon sent packing to London and his young aides, blamed for misleading him, were shown the door. The disengagement was so bad that Bilawal refused to see his father in London in December, according to a close associate of the family.
PPP is already at the brink of disintegration, number of factions has been working within the party and allegedly the sister of Asif Ali Zardari, Faryal Talpur does not want Benazir’s scion to take control of the party affairs and it seems that Asif Ali Zardari has succumbed to her sister. Whatever the facts behind keeping Bilawal away from politics, it would leave dangerous impacts on the party because the ideological followers of party still believe that it is party of Bhutto’s not Zardari’s. Dethroning Bilawal would certainly be great mistake of Asif Ali Zardari that would result in a permanent divide of PPP.
