ISLAMABD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) here Wednesday held a consultative meeting to invite suggestions from the main political parties for the upcoming by-elections of local government and devise a comprehensive strategy to hold the general elections 2018 in free, fair and transparent way, said Additional Secretary Election Commission, Fida Muhammad.
Briefing the media after the consultative meeting, he said that a total of 24 mainstream political parties attended the session and forwarded their suggestion and proposals. He said that holding of the by-elections in the light of the proposals would provide election commission a base for orientation besides ensuring transparency and impartiality in elections 2018.
He said that implementing electoral code of conduct is joint responsibility of all stake holders including political parties and contestants. He said all the concerned should play their due role in holding the elections in a fair manner. He informed that number of polling stations would be increased for the facilitation of voters in accordance with the area population. He said that that election commission would redress all those complaints that would fall in its purview.
Additional Secretary said that “Android Messaging System” would be introduced in Islamabad LG elections and if the experience succeeded the same exercise would made be the part of general elections 2018, he added. He said that a monitoring cell has been established in the commission to improve and streamline its affairs.
