On one hand Pakistan has been fighting a full scale war against terrorists. Chief of Army staff and Political leadership has vowed time and again to eradicate terrorism but at the same time state is hobnobbing with terrorists. The double standards of state could be witnessed by its decision on notorious terrorist Zaki ur Rehman Lakhvi. Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, the alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attacks, was released from Adiala jail on Friday following the Lahore High Court’s dismissal of detention orders issued against him by the Okara DCO on March 14. A central leader of Jamaatud Dawa (JuD), Lakhvi was released from the prison early this morning after furnishing Rs2 million in surety bonds. According to jail authorities, following his release he was picked up by JuD members amid tight security with his current location not known. At the time of the bombay attacks, Lakhvi was believed to be the operational head of the banned Laskhar-i-Taiba (LT) that has been accused by India of carrying out the attacks in India’s financial capital. Lakhvi along with Zarar Shah was allegedly the key planner of the attack that killed 166 people.
Release of Lakhvi shows stirring parliamentary speeches seem hollow, the symbolic monuments towards the APS victims, duplicitous, and makes the state’s stance on terrorism, hypocritical. The hypocrisy is so blatant that it insults the public’s intelligence. It is an astonishing fact that the state can manage a traditional military parade in the middle of a full-blown war against militants without a hitch, but cannot provide enough security for the proper functioning of a court trial. One wonders that whether Lakhvi’s act was not an act of terrorism that could be suitable to be heard in military courts? This step has not only insulted millions of Pakistani, who seemed to be cheer over the statements of COAS and political leadership against terrorism but it has also rubbed salt on the wounds of those parents who lost their angels in APS attack.
