Saudi’s indiscriminate bombardment on Yemen continues unchecked that is not only killing innocent people but also the Children. On the other hand Pakistan has concluded its two days session on Yemen and parliamentarians have decided not to be a part of this war, rather they asked to play a role of Mediator in the conflict. It is very sensible move indeed by the Pakistani parliamentarians. At the same time Iran’s foreign minister Javad Zarif was also on two day’s visit to Pakistan to discuss the Yemen crisis. During his meetings to different stakeholders both sides agreed to find out a peaceful solution to the Yemn quagmire however what would be way or framework to bring peace to Yemen has not been underscored yet. Clearly, the bombardment of Yemen must stop as it has taken a heavy toll on the population. In nearly three weeks of fighting, WHO has said there have been over 640 fatalities while more than 2,200 people have been injured in the impoverished state. In fact, the situation has been described as “critical” by the global health body.
Diplomatic efforts are useful tool to stop this bloodshed because only negotiations can pave way for a solution which could be acceptable for all sides. Infact the Yemen crisis is nothing more than a power struggle between Saudia and Iran. Both the sides sit together and find out a viable solution to this problem and certainly Pakistan can play a positive role in bringing both the countries on negotiation table. Throughout the crisis, the UN has remained quiet, while the OIC, seen as close to Riyadh, has hardly pressed for peace. Russia has submitted a resolution in the Security Council calling for a ceasefire, but there has been no momentum on the issue. This situation does not bode well for the Yemen crisis and world needs to compel both sides to resolve this issue through diplomatic ways.
