With some of the worst terrorist events taking place, the year 2014 was one of the deadliest and bloodiest in Pakistan’s history. The dead bodies and blood marked the beginning of the year and it continued through the end.
There have been several attempts from the government and law enforcement to curb the terrorism in the year 2014.
Following is a thorough timeline of the terrorism and counter-terrorism related events that took place throughout the year 2014.

January 1: Two killed, several injured as blast hits pilgrims bus in Quetta
At least two people were killed and several others injured when a bus carrying pilgrims was hit by a roadside blast in Akhtarabad town in Quetta.
January 2: Policeman killed, two injured in Tank blast
A policeman was killed and two others injured in a roadside blast in Tank area of North Waziristan.
January 2: Two alleged terrorists killed in Karachi operation
In the area of ManghooPir, the Rangers and Police killed two alleged TTP terrorists. Large cache of weapons including hand grenades and fake identity cards were also recovered from their hideout.
January 3: Security forces arrest two terrorists in Chaman
Security forces have foiled a terrorism bid in Balochistan and arrested two alleged terrorists during operation in Chaman area.
January 4: Twin blasts in Quetta kill one, injure 11
Back-to-back blasts killed one and injured 11 others, including advisor to the Balochistan chief minister MajidAbro along with his guard, in the southwestern Pakistani province of Balochistan.
January 4: Terror bid foiled in Islamabad, two alleged terrorists caught
Police have arrested two alleged terrorists within the limits of Sahala Police Station in Rawat area.
January 6: AitzazHasan: 15-yr-old gave his life tackling a bomber, saved 2000 schoolmates
A teenage student sacrificed his life tackling a suicide bomber in an attempt to save the lives of over 2000 schoolmates in Hangu.
January 6: Blast kills 10 in Khyber Agency
At least 10 people were killed and another nine wounded in an explosion at the home of a tribal leader in a restive area of northwest Pakistan.
January 7: Five injured in Kurram Agency blast
At least five people were injured in a blast in Saddah Bazaar’s Noor Market area in Kurram Agency.
January 10: Martyred SSP CID ChaudhryAslam laid to rest in Gizri graveyard
SSP CID ChaudhryAslam and three other policemen were martyred in an explosion on LyariEspressway near EssaNagri in Karachi.
January 10: Karachi: Two men accused of supplying arms to terrorists arrested
Rangers arrested two illegal arms suppliers during a raid in Landhi area of the city. The suspects have been identified as Faraz and Nizam.
January 11:Taliban chief, spokesman booked for Karachi blast
In an unprecedented development, a formal case to probe Karachi blasts that martyred 4 cops including SSP CID ChaudhryAslam was registered at PIB police station charging Taliban chief MaulviFazalullah and spokesman ShahidullahShaid with multiple homicides.Suicide bomber allegedly responsible for suicide attack on SSP CID ChaudhryAslam’s convoy has been identified as one Nematullah.
January 12: Awami National Party leader Mian Mushtaq among three shot dead in Peshawar
Former provincial vice president of Awami National Party (ANP) MianMushtaq and two others were shot dead by unknown motorcyclists.
January 13: Talks with Taliban are government s top priority, says Chaudhry Nisar
Interior Minister ChaudhryNisar Ali Khan stated that the dialogue with Taliban is the top priority of government to maintain peace in the region.
January 14: Policeman killed in Peshawar landmine blast
A landmine exploded near a police picket in Regi Town inuring two police officials and one died in the blast.
January 14: Two policemen injured in DI Khan blast, bomb defused in RY Khan
At least two policemen including a Station House Office (SHO) injured when a police vehicle came under bomb attack in Pakistan s northwest district of Dera Ismail Khan.
January 14: Lahore: TTP demands extortion money from doctor
Dr Shabir, he received a computerized letter allegedly sent to him by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) demanding Rs 1 million as extortion money.
January 16: Peshawar Tableeghi Markaz blast kills 6, TTP denies involvement
At least six people including a child killed while 59 others injured in an explosion at TableeghiMarkaz on Charsadda Road in Peshawar whereas Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan denied the involvement in this blast.
January 17: Attack on Express News van claims three lives in Karachi
At least three people were killed and one was injured when a Express News van came under attack near the Matric board office in Nazimabad area of Karachi.
January 17: Blast near train in Rajanpur kills 4, injures 60
A bomb blast near a passenger train (Khushhal Khan Khattak Express) killed at least four people and wounded 60 others.
January 19: Attack on military convoy claims 20 lives, injures 30
A bomb attack on Frontier Corps convoy in Bannu on Sunday has claimed lives of at least 20 soldiers while seriously injuring 30. Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed the responsibility.
January 20: TTP claims responsibility for attack on military convoy
A bomb struck a military convoy in Bannu killing 22 soldiers and wounding more than 30. TTP has claimed the responsibility of the blast.
Rawalpindi: 10 killed in RA Bazaar blast, TTP claims responsibility
At least ten people including six security personnel have been killed in a blast took out by TTP in Rawalpindi’s RA Bazaar. Police detained about 50 suspects.
January 21: Two female polio workers, one cop killed in Karachi
Gunmen shot dead two female polio workers and a policeman on duty to protect a polio vaccination team in Karachi.
January 22: Key Taliban commander Adnan Rasheed killed in North Waziristan
Key militant commander Adnan Rasheed killed in North Waziristan. The militant commander was killed as jets of security pound militant hideouts in North Waziristan.
January 22: Six policeman, one child killed in Charsadda blast
A bomb rigged to a bicycle hit a police patrol on its way to guard a polio vaccination team, killing six policemen and a boy.
January 22: Six security men killed Mastung clash
At least six paramilitary troops were killed and 10 others injured in an armed clash between militants and security forces in southwest Mastung district. Later, police in a search operation arrested 17 suspects.
January 23: Peshawar: Explosion at workshop kills 7, injures 10
In a targeted explosion at a car workshop at Scheme Chowk area in Peshawar, at least 7 have died while another 10 are injured.
January 25: Karachi: Six policemen martyred in hand grenade, firing attack
At least six police personnel were martyred and two others were injured when two police vehicles came under attack in Landhi 6 and Landhi 3.
January 26: Hangu: Explosion at festival kills 6 children
At least six children were killed as a result of an explosion that took place at a children’s festival in Hangu.
January 29: Three killed, several injured as blasts target Rangers in Karachi
At least three people including two Rangers personnel were killed and more than 10 sustained injuries in three separate blasts in Pakistan s southern port city of Karachi.
January 30: Bomb killed one, injures 12 in Balochistan district
A bomb destroyed a pickup truck at a petrol pump in southwestern Pakistan, killing one person and wounding 12 others.
January 30: Karachi: 15 injured in cracker blasts outside ANP leader s house
At least 15 people were injured in three back to back cracker explosions outside Awami National Party (ANP) leader Muhammad Ali’s house in Qasba Colony area.
