Indian authorities have razed a 1,200-year-old Dargah Mosque and graveyard in Gujarat’s Gir Somnath district, claiming that the demolition has reclaimed approximately 15 hectares of government land valued at Rs 60 crore.
Critics, however, contend that the demolition violated an interim order issued by the Supreme Court on September 17, which mandated that no demolitions take place without court approval. Supreme Court advocate Anas Tanwir denounced the action, stating, “A 1,200-year-old Dargah, a protected monument, was demolished by the Gujarat Government… brazenly defying a Supreme Court order.”
