Pakistan is a country that despite huge natural resources found begging with other countries. Whoever the ruler may be, Pakistan found appealing world to help her. Whether it is natural disaster, war on terror or issue of IDPs, Pakistan has appealed international community to assist her financially. In such a recent call Finance Minister Ishaq Dar this time wants the international community to provide assistance of $1.5 billion to fund the ongoing war against terrorism and support rehabilitation of displaced persons.
Pakistan lacks nothing, it has huge business opportunities, the reservoirs of natural resources, like Oil, Gold, Copper, Coal and Iron Ore are in abundance in the country but of no use. Furthermore Pakistan government collects huge revenues in term of taxes. Now even those taxes fall short to run the country’s affairs, why Government does not take into task those who evade tax of billions of rupees but the government does not seem to be serious to remedy this. Then there is pervasive corruption and funds are being transferred abroad in the full knowledge of the regulatory and monitoring agencies. Agricultural income remains outside the ambit of taxation. If only the twin problems of tax evasion and corruption are tackled the government cans easily double its revenue collection.
When a donor country provides aid certainly strings are attached to it and these ultimately effect foreign policy and Pakistan finds no option except to oblige them. The same is happening in case of Saudia now, who is constantly pushing Pakistan for troops to fight out her war in Yemen.
