Pakistan military courts have handed over death sentence to six terrorists in first ever verdict. Nine military courts have been set up in different provinces of Pakistan. There has been much debate that these military courts are violation of basic human rights granted by the constitution of Pakistan. In a tweet DG ISPR wrote— “#Mil Courts: Army Chief confirms death sentence of 6 hard core terrorists tried by the recently established mil courts.” The establishment of military courts certainly gives rise a question that if Judicial system has eroded and cannot deliver justice, Why don’t government abolish it? What this toot-less judicial system is doing? I it cannot dispense justice, abolish civil justice system. One of the major problem with military courts is that no one knows about the proceedings, the accused do not have the right to defend themselves. Who are these men? What crimes have they been accused of and now convicted for? What evidence was presented? What kind of legal representation was available to the accused? And what is the appeals process that is available to the convicted men? For example Military courts handed over death sentence to six and life imprisonment to one for the same offense. Would military courts clear that what was the different between those six who are hanged and one who has been awarded life imprisonment. What are the criteria for awarding death sentences and life imprisonments? It is indeed a blind justice.
