Chief Justice of Pakistan has emphasized that upholding fundamental rights is a cornerstone of any democratic society and must be ensured uniformly.
He made these remarks during a meeting with Supreme Court Bar Association President Mian Muhammad Rauf Ata.
According to a statement issued by the SCBA, the bar president informed the chief justice about the prevailing situation in Balochistan, where constitutional rights are reportedly not being observed.
The deteriorating circumstances have contributed to worsening law and order, increased insurgent activity, and widespread disruptions such as road closures, severely affecting the everyday lives of citizens in the province.
The SCBA president also shared with CJP the details of consultative meetings aimed at building a broad-based national consensus on Balochistan’s issues. He noted that, in general, the majority of the political elite agree that resolution of these issues lies in a democratic approach.
