Pakistan has been under tremendous pressure from Saudia to help out the country from ongoing conflict with Houthis. Mian Nawaz Sharif could have taken solo flight but due to tremendous pressure from civil society, intelligentsia and other corners of the country, he was forced to take other stakeholders along. Thus in the latest development PML-N has decided to convene a joint session of the Parliament on the issue. The joint session would definitely discuss the extent of Pakistan’s participation in the war.
Joint session would discuss the government’s position, thus far at odds with Saudi claims; and two, what is at stake for Pakistan, both internally and externally, when it comes to intervening — diplomatically or militarily — in a region where Pakistan has to necessarily balance competing interests. Pakistan government has said that for Pakistan the red line is Arab’s integrity, if it is so why it is convening joints sessions. Houthis are definitely not advancing in Saudi’s land, they have not intentions to attack holy places, then why Pakistan is in haste? It is the war being fought on Yemen’s land what is the stake then?
