Rubio Urges Calm in Call with COAS Asim Munir

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir on Saturday, urging restraint amid escalating tensions with India, according to a State Department spokesperson.

Rubio emphasized the need for both countries to pursue immediate de-escalation and offered U.S. support in facilitating dialogue to prevent further conflict.

“The Secretary expressed concern over the rapid escalation between the nuclear-armed neighbors and reiterated Washington’s commitment to supporting diplomatic solutions,” the official statement read.

The call came hours after Pakistan launched ‘Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos’, a major retaliatory military campaign in response to reported Indian missile and drone strikes earlier in the week. Pakistani forces targeted multiple military sites inside India in what Islamabad described as a defensive but firm response.
