Torture by intelligence agencies is indeed not a new phenomenon but the tale of horror told by CIA in a recent report is more than a shame for torch bearer of human rights. The world is not oblivious about the hundreds of terror suspects in Bagram and Guantanamobay which were never presented before a court, denying the basic right of self defence. The few defence lawyers say most of them were kept without fair trial and legal rights. The report is a pack of depravity and hard to digest. CIA left no stone unturned to humiliate humanity. One cannot imagine even that a detainee died of hypothermia and number of them was shackled naked to the concrete floors of the prisons. Most often these detainees were hooded and dragged up and down, slapped, punched and kicked.
United States always claimed and tried to prove a county which highly emphasizes on human rights and also warns number of world countries on poor human rights records. It enjoys a status of a country where everyone has right to defend himself. Reading this report one finds no difference between a civilized nation and brutal Taliban. Rather this report shows that Taliban were quite better than CIA in investigating or treating the prisoners. US shown the world that human rights are for only US citizens. Now this gives rise to a serious question despite this why United States maintained torture houses. Was US government oblivious about these torture houses or CIA’s dirty ways of investigation? Definitely not, State was never ignorant about what was going on in these torture dungeons. Images of CIA’s atrocities had been circulating on world and social media since long, Entire world was aware of the brutal torture against gitmo inmates than how can be US government oblivious about this heinous act of CIA????President obama is enjoying second turn in power, why he did not tried to bring this sham investigation report during his early days in power??? Infact Obama administration wanted a political point scoring by showing the world and US citizens that he is true torch bearer of human rights and for this purpose he even did not spare CIA. The question is whether Obama administration is going to hold CIA accountable or not for this heinous act. So far not single word is uttered by Republicans or democrats regarding CIA’s accountability which shows hidden agendas behind this report.
Another dimension for this report is that US very cunningly saved his stature of being a nation that always upheld human rights and justice. The stories of Bagram and Guntanamobay had forced the world to think that US is a lawless thug state whose willingness to abide by basic human rights and adhere to the rule of law is questionable.
