President Zardari Calls for Global Equality, Solidarity at Doha Summit

President Asif Ali Zardari has underscored the importance of building socially cohesive societies founded on equality, solidarity, and respect for human rights.

Speaking at the World Summit for Social Development in Doha, he stressed the urgent need to eliminate poverty in all its dimensions, generate full and productive employment, and secure decent work opportunities for all. He further emphasized that global institutions must become more inclusive and attentive, especially to the specific needs of the Global South.

President Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to prioritizing people-centric policies, stating that the country’s vision for inclusive and sustainable growth is in complete harmony with the principles of the Doha Declaration.

Asif Ali Zardari mentioned that Pakistan’s flagship Benazir Income Support Programme has empowered over nine million families with income assistance as well as healthcare and educational support. This landmark programme remains a model for the rest of the world and has helped transform millions of lives.

The President said sustainable development goals also remain within our sight. He said Pakistan aims to raise literacy rate to ninety percent and ensure that every child is in the school. Through the National Internship Programme, we are empowering the youth.

Referring to the impacts of climate change, the President said Pakistan is investing in resilient adaptation, ensuring that growth remains green, inclusive and long lasting.

He said Pakistan also faces a new threat in the form of weaponization of water. Regretting the violation of Indus Water Treaty by the other party, he said such tactics cannot and will not succeed.

The President also called for the resolution of Palestinian and Kashmir disputes in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.
