Five people lost their lives in an explosion at a fireworks factory in Hyderabad’s Latifabad area.
Reports indicate that eight other workers were severely injured in the blast and were immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Rescue teams and the fire brigade were able to control the blaze, but the factory structure — situated in fields — sustained heavy damage.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad, the incident took place in an illegal factory, whose front entrance had been kept locked. The factory had been built in fields near the Indus River, and he mentioned that several motorcycles are still buried under the debris.
Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the incident. The CM has sought information from the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner of Hyderabad and ordered a full audit of safety arrangements in the factory. He warned that strict action would be taken against those responsible for the explosion.
Also, Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori expressed deep sorrow over the fireworks factory explosion. Tessori conveyed his grief over the deaths and injuries resulting from the incident. The Governor has directed the relevant authorities to submit an immediate report and investigate the cause of the fire.
