The federal government has updated its vehicle import policy, introducing stricter regulations.
Under the revised rules, cars can now only be imported through the Transfer of Residence and gift schemes, with imports under the personal baggage scheme no longer allowed.
The Ministry of Commerce has approved changes to the Import Policy Order 2022 and issued an official notification.
Additionally, the government has extended the vehicle import timeframe from 700 days to 850 days.
In addition, imported vehicles cannot be transferred in someone else’s name for at least one year.
The policy further makes it mandatory for used vehicles to meet minimum safety and environmental standards.
Vehicles imported under the Transfer of Residence scheme must originate from the same country where the overseas Pakistani is residing.
Officials say the changes are aimed at closing loopholes and bringing more clarity to the car import process.
