Khawaja Asif says Pakistan has become key mediator in US‑Iran ceasefire talks

Shafaqna Pakistan: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan is increasingly being recognised as a credible and trusted mediator both regionally and globally, following its role in facilitating the US-Iran ceasefire.

Speaking to media outside Parliament House, Asif congratulated the nation, describing the development as a major diplomatic success. “Today, Pakistan has succeeded in helping stop a major war in the world,” he said.

He added that international attention—including from Arab nations and global powers such as the United States—is now focused on Pakistan, highlighting the country’s elevated role on the world stage.

He credited what he called a “hybrid model” of governance, involving both civilian and military leadership, for achieving significant successes over the past two to three years.

Asif emphasised that cooperation among key centers of power has demonstrated Pakistan’s potential to achieve major accomplishments on the global stage.

In a critical remark aimed at India, he said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had been left with little to show, adding that Indian media would continue to react to recent developments.

Reflecting on the past year, the minister claimed that Pakistan had overcome a much larger adversary and that India was still attempting to restore its standing.

He added that Pakistan must now focus on internal challenges, including strengthening the economy and combating terrorism.
