Shafaqna Pakistan: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has given its approval for the acquisition of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) by the Arif Habib consortium.
According to the commission, the privatisation deal was cleared following a Phase One competitive assessment.
The CCP stated that the transaction is unlikely to result in market dominance or undermine competition in the aviation sector.
It noted that PIA’s share in the market has declined over time, while competitive pressures within the industry remain strong.
The regulator also said that the privatisation is expected to enhance operational efficiency and help ease the financial burden on the government.
It clarified that the approval was limited to competition-related aspects, while other regulatory requirements would remain in place.
