Shafaqna Pakistan: The United Arab Emirates is observing the 50th anniversary of the unification of its armed forces on Wednesday, marking a key milestone in the country’s national history.
President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan said on the occasion that the UAE draws its strength from national unity and its people, while emphasising that the courage, determination, and readiness of the armed forces play a central role in safeguarding the country’s stability and sovereignty.
According to reports, on May 6, 1976, the country’s separate defence forces were unified under a single command, establishing the foundation of a structured national military system.
In his message, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed paid tribute to the officers, personnel, and martyrs of the armed forces, describing them as the guardians of the nation. “The anniversary is not only a historical landmark but also a symbol of unity, loyalty, and continuous national readiness,” he added.
The anniversary is being observed at a time when regional security and defence challenges remain prominent, underscoring the UAE’s commitment to maintaining strong institutional and military capabilities. Official statements highlighted that over the past five decades, the armed forces have not only defended national borders and interests but have also contributed to regional stability, humanitarian efforts, and broader national security objectives.
On the occasion, congratulatory messages were also issued by Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and other Emirati leaders. They described the armed forces as a pillar of national unity, reinforcing the view that the UAE continues to regard military, national, and institutional cohesion as central to its stability and future security.
