Shafaqna Pakistan: Islamabad Police on Tuesday stopped Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi from proceeding to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he intended to meet imprisoned PTI founder Imran Khan.
Sohail Afridi, who departed for the prison earlier in the day, was accompanied by Imran Khan’s sisters as well as several leaders and workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Police officials stopped the delegation at Chungi No. 26 in Islamabad from moving toward Adiala Jail. Following heated exchanges with authorities, PTI leaders staged a sit-in at the location.
Meanwhile, several PTI leaders, including Salman Akram Raja and Gohar Ali Khan, along with the daughters of Bushra Bibi, also arrived at Adiala Jail but were not allowed to meet Imran Khan.
According to reports, the official visiting hours for Imran Khan ended at 4pm.
Later, the PTI ended its hours long sit-in at Chungi No26 late Tuesday night.
Afridi, while speaking to the media at the Peshawar Mor interchange on Srinagar Highway, said he had travelled to Islamabad peacefully to express solidarity with Imran’s sisters.
He said party workers demonstrated restraint, discipline and responsibility despite repeated obstacles and restrictions.
“It is deeply troubling that the elected chief executive of a province, accompanied by his cabinet, has been prevented from proceeding,” he said, describing the move as inconsistent with democratic norms and reflective of a discriminatory approach towards a federating unit.
Imran medical checkup
A medical examination of Imran was completed at Adiala Jail on Tuesday, with a team of doctors conducting a follow-up assessment of his affected eye along with a broader health review, according to jail sources.
Sources said the medical team, after completing the examination, departed from Adiala Jail following a visit that lasted nearly one-and-a-half hours.
