Shafaqna Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has granted a no-objection certificate (NOC) to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif, allowing him to travel to Gilgit-Baltistan for election campaign activities.
According to officials, the former prime minister is scheduled to arrive in Gilgit-Baltistan on June 2 as part of the party’s election campaign. The Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan has also formally approved the visit.
The ECP has issued the permission with the condition that the election code of conduct must be strictly followed. Authorities warned that any violation of electoral rules could lead to legal action.
The approval was granted after a formal request from the PML-N, enabling Nawaz Sharif to participate in campaigning ahead of the upcoming Gilgit-Baltistan elections.
The development comes days after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) alleged that its Khyber Pakhtunkhwa president and National Assembly member Junaid Akbar was arrested and later expelled from Gilgit-Baltistan while campaigning for the June 7 elections. PTI claimed Akbar and several party leaders were detained at a checkpoint and removed from the region, while Gilgit-Baltistan authorities maintained that no formal arrests were made and said the action was taken over alleged violations of the election code of conduct.
The incident triggered political controversy, with PTI leaders accusing authorities of restricting opposition campaigning ahead of the polls.
