Pakistan Demands Urgent Ceasefire as Lebanon Conflict Escalates

Shafaqna Pakistan: Pakistan has urged an immediate ceasefire and an end to military operations in Lebanon, voicing serious concern over the worsening security and humanitarian conditions during an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council.

Speaking to the council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the situation in Lebanon was rapidly developing into a major humanitarian crisis and could threaten broader regional stability.

He observed that the situation on the ground was continuing to deteriorate despite existing ceasefire arrangements, warning that ongoing military activity and incursions into Lebanese territory were further intensifying tensions and putting civilian lives at risk.

The Pakistani envoy added that millions of people have been impacted by the conflict, with many forced to leave their homes and struggling to access basic services and essential humanitarian aid.

Ahmad condemned attacks on medical personnel, humanitarian workers and civilian infrastructure, describing such incidents as grave violations of international humanitarian law. He urged the international community to respond swiftly and effectively to prevent further suffering.

He also expressed regret over the damage caused to Lebanon’s historical and cultural heritage, warning that continued destruction would further undermine peace and stability in the region.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s support for Lebanon’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and political independence, Ahmad said Islamabad stood firmly behind all efforts aimed at achieving lasting peace.

He stressed the importance of fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and called on all parties to honour their ceasefire commitments.

He urged the international community to move beyond statements and take concrete measures to prevent further escalation in the Middle East and pave the way for a sustainable peace.
