Pakistan’s Economy in Recovery Phase, Claims Ahsan Iqbal

Shafaqna Pakistan: Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, has emphasized the importance of prioritizing and completing ongoing development projects.

While addressing the Annual Plan Coordination Committee meeting for the 2026–27 budget, he noted that the country’s development budget is not sufficient to fund projects in a timely manner, calling it a significant challenge for the planning process.

Ahsan Iqbal stated that the government would need to increase development spending over the long term while ensuring that priority projects are completed and subsequently removed from the active development portfolio.

He further said that Pakistan’s economy is on a recovery path, adding that the government will continue its efforts to provide relief to the public through more effective and targeted development planning.

Highlighting the scale of the challenge, the Minister for Planning and Development said the federal development portfolio carried a throw-forward of around ten trillion rupees, while ministries had sought nearly four trillion rupees for ongoing projects.
