Shafaqna Pakistan:- The UN refugee agency warned on Tuesday that cuts in funding could further aggravate the Rohingya crisis in Bangladesh.
As global emergencies increase and donor budgets come under strain, the United Nations and its partners are finding it more difficult to sustain assistance for one of the world’s largest refugee populations.
The situation has worsened with the arrival of around 150,000 additional Rohingya Muslims since early 2024, who fled renewed violence in Myanmar, according to UNHCR. At the same time, the United States and several European countries have reduced international aid funding in recent years.
The warning comes ahead of the ninth anniversary of the August 2017 military crackdown in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, which forced approximately 750,000 Rohingya to seek refuge in Muslim-majority Bangladesh.
UNHCR called on donors to continue supporting Rohingya refugees until returns can take place safely.
