Shafaqna Pakistan: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is scheduled to visit Tehran on Saturday for high-level meetings with Iranian officials, amid reported progress in discussions over Iran’s frozen assets and ongoing diplomatic efforts involving the United States.
According to sources, Naqvi is expected to discuss potential avenues for a memorandum of understanding concerning the issue of Iranian funds that remain frozen abroad.
The visit comes as diplomatic engagement surrounding the assets has intensified, with reports suggesting that some headway has been made in recent negotiations.
Sources familiar with the matter said talks on Iran’s frozen assets have moved forward in recent weeks. However, disagreements reportedly persist regarding the total amount of funds to be released and the schedule for their disbursement.
The developments are unfolding against the backdrop of renewed diplomatic contacts between Tehran and Washington.
According to sources, US President Donald Trump has informed mediators that negotiations will not continue indefinitely and that a resolution should be pursued within a 60-day timeframe.
Ahead of his visit, Naqvi met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the upcoming engagements in Iran.
Sources said the prime minister provided important guidance regarding the interior minister’s interactions with the Iranian leadership and reviewed the latest developments in Iran-US negotiations.
During the meeting, the two leaders also exchanged views on regional developments and matters of mutual concern.
Naqvi further briefed the prime minister on Pakistan’s internal security situation and ongoing efforts to strengthen national security.
The visit follows a series of meetings held by Naqvi with senior Iranian officials over the past two days.
In a statement issued earlier, the interior minister confirmed a fresh round of talks with Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.
