Shafaqna Pakistan: Authorities have imposed Section 144 in Diamer District to maintain law and order as preparations for the 2026 Gilgit-Baltistan General Assembly elections have been finalised.
Thousands of election personnel have been deployed across 24 constituencies, with around 7,500 officers and staff assigned election-related duties.
The administration has also announced financial incentives for election workers, allocating a total of Rs276 million in honoraria. Under the plan, 24 returning officers will receive a combined Rs1.8 million, while assistant returning officers have been allocated Rs1.2 million.
For polling operations, Rs16.416 million has been earmarked for 1,368 presiding officers. In addition, 2,450 assistant presiding officers will receive Rs24.5 million, while another Rs24 million has been allocated for 2,450 polling officers.
Additionally, Rs208 million has been reserved for lower-grade staff, including LDCs, UDCs, and support personnel engaged in election duties.
Meanwhile, the district administration in Diamer has imposed Section 144 for a period of 60 days to ensure security. The order, issued by the Deputy Commissioner, prohibits display of weapons, aerial firing, and the use of fireworks.
The notification also bans the unauthorized use of drones and unmanned aerial vehicles, requiring prior approval from the District Magistrate for any drone operations.
Strict measures have been introduced to protect sensitive installations, and law enforcement agencies have been exempted from the restrictions.
The administration stated that the measures came into effect from June 5, 2026, and warned that strict legal action will be taken against any violations. Authorities have urged citizens to cooperate with the directives to ensure peace and security in the region.
