NEC Postponement Raises Risk of Budget Delay

Shafaqna Pakistan: The meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC), which was scheduled to take place on June 8, has been postponed.

According to sources, the NEC session has been removed from the official schedule of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and is now expected to be held on Tuesday instead.

The meeting was originally planned for 3:00 pm under the chairmanship of the prime minister, with the chief ministers of all four provinces expected to participate.

The session was anticipated to consider and approve the national development budget for the fiscal year 2026–27. It was also expected to review development expenditures and progress made during the outgoing fiscal year before finalising recommendations for the upcoming budget cycle.

Agenda items also included presentations on provincial annual development plans and approval of key economic targets for the next fiscal year.

The annual federal budget for 2026–27 is expected to be presented on June 10.
