Shafaqna Pakistan: Amid a renewed escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran, Pakistan has urged all parties to show restraint and allow diplomatic efforts another opportunity to succeed.
Addressing a session of the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, called on the involved sides to “give peace a little more chance” as hostilities continue to intensify in the region.
He said that Pakistan, along with its partners, is working “earnestly and painstakingly” to explore a peaceful diplomatic resolution to the ongoing crisis and stressed the importance of restraint from all parties.
The statement comes in the backdrop of renewed military exchanges and retaliatory strikes between the United States and Iran, which have raised concerns about the durability of the already fragile ceasefire and broader regional stability in the Middle East.
Ambassador Ahmad warned that recent developments highlight the ‘fragility of the situation’ and the growing risk of wider escalation if diplomatic efforts fail.
He added that the breakdown in dialogue has also complicated discussions on the Iran nuclear issue, disrupting international verification efforts led by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
“The cycle of violence and instability must end for the good of regional and international peace, security and prosperity,” he said, stressing the need for urgent diplomatic engagement.
