Shafaqna Pakistan: US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he had called off military strikes against Iran that had been planned for later in the evening, a significant reversal just hours after warning that Washington could strike the country “very hard” and suggesting the possibility of taking control of strategic Iranian oil assets.
The announcement came amid reports of heightened diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran, despite ongoing military tensions, threats, and escalating rhetoric that have fuelled concerns about a wider regional confrontation.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the decision followed talks that had reached the highest levels of Iran’s leadership and had secured backing from various regional and international parties.
“Given that discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran have reached the highest level of leadership and received the necessary approval, I have decided, as President of the United States, to cancel the strikes and bombings that were scheduled for this evening,” Trump wrote.
He added that “discussions and final points” had been agreed in both concept and detail by the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Egypt and others.
Trump said a naval blockade would remain in place until what he described as a “transaction” is finalised, adding that details regarding the signing would be announced later.
The decision represented a significant reversal from remarks made earlier in the day when Trump warned that the United States would launch another major attack against Iran.
