Shafaqna Pakistan: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will sit in opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly and has invited the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to form the next government in the region.
In a statement, he said the PPP had emerged as the leading party in Gilgit-Baltistan and therefore deserved the opportunity to establish the government. He added that PML-N lawmakers would extend support to the PPP during the government formation process.
The prime minister described the decision as consistent with democratic traditions and emphasised that his party has maintained respectful working relations with its coalition partners.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomed the announcement and thanked the prime minister for extending the invitation to form a government in Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said acknowledging PPP’s majority in the region reflected the continuation of democratic norms. Bilawal added that, as part of the understanding, the offices of governor and deputy speaker in Gilgit-Baltistan would be held by PML-N.
He further said that PPP would utilize all its resources to serve the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.
