Shafaqna Pakistan: The federal government has announced a reduction in petroleum prices, lowering the rates of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) by Rs4 and Rs2 per litre, respectively, for the week ending June 19, according to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division on Friday.
The revised prices will come into effect from midnight on June 13.
Under the new rates, petrol will be available at Rs373.78 per litre, down from Rs377.78, while the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced from Rs380.78 to Rs378.78 per litre.
The government has also released an official notification confirming the updated fuel prices.
The latest adjustment follows a reduction in petrol prices of Rs4 per litre last week, while the rate of high-speed diesel remained unchanged during that review period.
Pakistan has been revising petroleum prices on a weekly basis in response to fluctuations in global energy markets, particularly amid heightened tensions in the Middle East.
The ongoing conflict involving Iran has raised concerns over international oil supplies, particularly after disruptions linked to the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route through which nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil and gas supplies pass during peacetime.
Petrol is primarily used by motorists, motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers, making its price a key factor in the daily expenses of middle- and lower-income households.
Meanwhile, high-speed diesel is widely used in the transport and agricultural sectors, including trucks, buses, trains, tractors, tube wells and threshers.
