Shafaqna Pakistan: North Korea has declared that the issue of denuclearisation is permanently settled and irreversible, while condemning recent discussions between the United States and South Korea on strengthening nuclear deterrence.
In a statement carried by the state-run Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on Sunday, a spokesperson for North Korea’s foreign ministry said that US-led efforts and cooperation with its allies to counter Pyongyang’s nuclear capabilities would not alter the country’s status as a nuclear weapons state.
Using North Korea’s official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), the spokesperson stated that the country’s position as a nuclear-armed state is irreversible and insisted that the question of denuclearisation has been conclusively settled.
The statement came in response to talks held last week in Seoul, where officials from the United States and South Korea discussed enhancing nuclear deterrence and military preparedness against North Korea’s expanding weapons programme under the Nuclear Consultative Group (NCG).
