Shafaqna Pakistan:- With the arrival of the holy month of Muharram and the beginning of the mourning days for Imam Hussain (AS) and his loyal companions, the atmosphere of Kabul city has taken on the color and scent of mourning, and mosques, Hussainiyyas, religious centers, and several public thoroughfares in different parts of the capital are being dressed in black and preparing to hold mourning ceremonies.
Several religious and cultural centers in Kabul, including the Mahdiya Hussainiyya Chandawal, the Mohammadiya Jame Mosque in Taimani and the Afshar Hussainiyya Oumui, along with dozens of other mosques and Hussainiyyas, have been dressed in black and prepared to hold mourning ceremonies for the month of Muharram.
Shia Ulema Council calls on Taliban to ensure safe holding of Muharram and Ashura Ceremonies
The Shia Ulema Council of Afghanistan has called on the Taliban to ensure a safe environment for holding Muharram and Ashura ceremonies across Afghanistan.
In a statement released on Monday, June 15, the council said it expects Taliban security officials to provide the conditions necessary for the “grand and secure” observance of Muharram and Ashura ceremonies in Afghanistan.
The statement also emphasized that the Taliban should respect the “religious and sectarian rights” of all Afghan citizens and allow religious ceremonies to be held without obstruction.
This comes as, in recent years, following the Taliban’s return to power, reports have emerged of restrictions on Ashura commemorations in some provinces.
Sources have said that in some cases, the Taliban have prevented the installation of religious flags and symbols, and in certain areas, flags placed by people have even been removed.
