Pakistani nation is quite concerned about Yemen’s crisis and Pakistan’s decision whether to decline or accept Saudia’s request to take part in the conflict. The Saudis have deep influence inside Pakistan’s state institutions and have gradually been encroaching into spaces that impact public spheres. Saudi Arabia is among the three countries that have had an important place in Pakistan’s foreign policy determinants. Compared to Saudis, the US and China enjoy less privilege in Pakistan although they also have an influence over the latter’s internal political and military issues. The Saudis have at times played a mediatory role in resolving the civil-military and other political crises in Pakistan.
Nawaz Sharif already owes Saudi’s help in difficult times and as Nawaz Sharif came into power Saudia provided him $1.5 dollar as unconditional aid. The PML-N government can get more assistance if it continues serving the purpose of the Riyadh. But this might not be easy for the government because public sentiments are not in favour of Pakistan’s Saudi-influenced involvement in the Yemeni crisis. Definitely Mian Nawaz Sharif is in trouble because he wants to pay back Saudis, he must pay back but not at the cost of the country. It is not something as individuals pay back to each others, it is matter of the interests of the country. So Mian Nawaz Sharif should not pay back sacrificing country’s interests.
