Shafaqna Pakistan: Pakistan has expressed serious concern over the deteriorating situation in the occupied Palestinian territories at the United Nations Security Council, urging Israel to immediately halt illegal settlement activities.
Addressing the Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, said the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories remained extremely critical, describing violence by Israeli settlers and the expansion of illegal settlements as unacceptable.
He said that despite the ceasefire in Gaza, Palestinian casualties continued, and called on the Security Council to take effective measures to ensure Israel’s compliance with international law.
The Pakistani envoy also demanded the immediate release of withheld Palestinian Authority funds and called for an end to the annexation of Palestinian land, the demolition of homes and the forced displacement of Palestinians.
Asim Iftikhar stressed that Palestinians must be provided protection from violence by settlers and emphasized that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, remains the only viable path toward lasting peace.
He reiterated that the two-state solution is the only practical framework for achieving sustainable peace and stability in the Middle East.
