Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said Pakistan would not compromise on the Indus Waters Treaty, warning that the country was prepared to defend its rights if necessary. He also accused India of attempting to use the treaty as a political tool.
Speaking at the main oath-taking ceremony in Gilgit, Bilawal paid tribute to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, describing them as patriotic citizens of Pakistan. He said the region’s residents continue to honour former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto for his contributions.
Bilawal said the people of Gilgit-Baltistan secured their freedom from Dogra rule through struggle and sacrifice, adding that their efforts have earned them a distinguished place in history.
Bilawal pledged to create better opportunities for young people, saying the public mandate in Gilgit-Baltistan carries a great responsibility for his party. He added that addressing the region’s challenges remains a top priority and described its youth as talented and skilled.
The PPP chairman also said politics in Pakistan has become synonymous with conflict and confrontation, stressing that his party is willing to work with all political forces in the national interest. He thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for accepting the mandate in Gilgit-Baltistan and expressed gratitude to both the prime minister and the Pakistan Muslim League (N).
Bilawal further claimed that Pakistan’s armed forces had inflicted a humiliating defeat on India in the recent conflict. He said Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi should know that Pakistan is aware of what he described as India’s alleged conspiracies. He also claimed that an Israeli conspiracy had failed and accused Modi of attempting to facilitate infiltration into Pakistan through Afghanistan.
