Tshp he Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to repeal all controversial provisions from the provincial law concerning the salaries, benefits, and privileges of members of the provincial assembly, restoring the legislation in accordance with the 1988 Act.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Adviser Shafi Jan said the decision was taken during a provincial cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Friday.
Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati participated in the meeting through a video link.
Shafi Jan added that the move to remove the disputed clauses was made on the chief minister’s instructions and after consultation with the assembly speaker.
He added that the disputed provisions would be eliminated and the law would be amended to conform with the 1988 Act in order to address public concerns.
The information adviser said an important meeting would be held on Monday, during which all parliamentary leaders would be taken into confidence to ensure broad-based consultation before a final decision is made.
Shafi Jan further stated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was formed on the basis of the public mandate and would not make any decision that failed to reflect the aspirations of the people.
He also said the government would carefully consider concerns raised by journalists and the public and take appropriate steps in light of the feedback.
