Khawaja Asif Hails Mohsin Naqvi as Government’s Most Powerful Minister

Shafaqna Pakistan: Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has described Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi as the “most powerful minister” in the federal government, claiming that on several matters he is not even accountable to the prime minister.

Speaking in a television interview, Asif said that although Naqvi serves as interior minister, he does not appear to be fully integrated into the federal cabinet. He added that he had seen Naqvi attend only two or three cabinet meetings.

The defence minister also noted that Naqvi had participated in Parliament only a few times, remarking that if the interior minister himself believed the current governance system was ineffective, “then perhaps we should all go home.”

Asif’s comments came in response to Naqvi’s recent remarks that Pakistan’s governance structure had become too weak to effectively deal with the country’s challenges. Naqvi had warned that unless meaningful reforms were introduced, Pakistan could still be grappling with the same issues a decade from now.

Naqvi also argued that creating new administrative units or provinces had become essential for improving governance and ensuring the country’s long-term development, saying the current system had outlived its effectiveness.
