Shafaqna Pakistan: The Punjab government has extended its ban on the use of drones in open spaces across the province for another 30 days, citing security concerns.
According to the Punjab Home Department, the extension has been issued under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898. The order prohibits the operation of outdoor drones, while limited use of small drones at events held inside halls and marquees will be permitted. Event organisers, however, will be responsible for ensuring their safe operation.
Intelligence and law enforcement agencies will remain exempt from the restrictions. Drones may also be used for agricultural, irrigation and research activities, but only after obtaining written approval from the district-level “Safe Drone Usage Committee.”
According to the Home Department, drone use for the relevant purposes will be considered exempt from the ban after written permission is granted by the committee.
A Home Department spokesperson said public safety, maintenance of law and order and protection of property were the Punjab government’s top priorities. Administrations and police across the province have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the orders.
