AJK Assembly passes unanimous resolution against US envoy’s Kashmir remarks

Shafaqna Pakistan: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly on Monday unanimously passed a resolution rejecting reported remarks by a US envoy referring to Kashmir as part of India.

The resolution, presented by Latif Akbar during the assembly session, received unanimous support from lawmakers.

The resolution maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is not part of India but remains a disputed territory under relevant United Nations resolutions. It stated that the final status of the region is yet to be determined in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

The assembly strongly condemned the reported remarks by the US envoy, asserting that such statements had no bearing on the internationally recognised disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Lawmakers maintained that the future of Jammu and Kashmir should be decided by its people, reiterating the position traditionally taken by Pakistan and the AJK leadership on the longstanding dispute.

The resolution formally rejected the envoy’s reported remarks and reaffirmed the assembly’s support for what it described as the Kashmiri people’s right to determine their political future
